About reads

reads was established in 1976 by Mary Read. It has continually evolved to offer customers the quality they’ve come to expect.
Located on the corner of Queen and Spicer Streets in Woollahra, one of Sydney's most beautiful shopping villages, reads is more like a small department store than a boutique.
There are over 50 designers represented. If you want a snapshot of Australian fashion as well as highlights of specially chosen imported labels from the UK, Italy, France and New Zealand, reads is the store for you.
Clothing is complemented by an eclectic but concise range of accessories including shoes, handbags, scarves, one-off jewellery pieces and belts.
reads is committed to providing quality products, individualised service and professional advice.
Our philosophy is to make your shopping experience as pleasant and successful as possible. After all, that's the way we like to shop too.
30 years of reads
reads turned 30 in October 2006.
The first store opened in 1976, initially as Reads Town and Country Wear (which offered menswear, womenswear and riding wear) in Spicer Street, Woollahra.
In 1978, Mary Read moved around the corner to Queen Street and bought Frangipani, one of Sydney’s first boutiques, from Frances Stafford.
Since then, Reads Town and Country Wear has seen many changes and is now well known as reads.
